The third international Christian gathering of 'Awakening the Nation' officially opened yesterday afternoon in Honiara.

Chairman of the event's National Steering Committee, Edward Ronia says the gathering brings in international and local speakers to Honiara to give teachings on this year's theme of "Kingdom Leadership and Lifestyle for Governments, Churches and Nations".

Mr Ronia describes the teachings as powerful and says it should challenge the people and government of Solomon Islands.

Solomon Islands is the third country to host this spiritual event which is expected to bring in over a thousand young Christians from the Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand.

The first event was held at the birthplace of SSEC pioneers at Bundaberg, Australia in 2008 and Vanuatu hosted the second gathering in Port Vila last year.

The international gathering was officially declared open yesterday afternoon by Governor General Sir Frank Kabui during a ceremony at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
