RAMSI Special Coordinator, Tim George, today expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Papua New Guinea affected by the recent floods.
Mr. George said that he wanted, on behalf of all the members of the Regional Assistance Mission, to extend condolences to all those families affected."We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of life, injury and destruction in PNG as a result of Cyclone Guba and the devastating floods that followed," Mr George said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with you all; leaders, victims and their families at this difficult time."
Mr. George said the mission felt the impact of such disasters in the region all the more as a regional organisation.
"At a time like this, we want to support all our colleagues from Papua New Guinea whom we work so closely with in RAMSI."
Mr. George said it was fitting to once again acknowledge the contribution that Papua New Guinea has been making to RAMSI since 2003.
"Part of RAMSI's success comes from the continual support that Pacific nations like PNG have given to the mission."
There are currently 16 Papua New Guineans serving in the Regional Assistance Mission.
