The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) will this weekend conduct a Level 1 Refereeing workshop in Honiara for interested new rugby officials.

The workshop will take place at the EU Non State Actors board room at China Town opposite the QQQ Holdings Ltd this Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November starting at 9:00am each day.

The workshop is intended to train new young and enthusiastic rugby officials who have not done the course yet as part of the training and recruitment initiative by SIRUF which seeks to train interested young rugby officials who can take up refereeing in Honiara and in the affiliating associations of SIRUF in the future.

SIRUF have identified that there is a need for more referees in the union, young officials especially, and is taking the necessary steps to recruit and train new and young officials to fill this gap.

The proposed course will be conducted by the SIRUF RDO who is an IRB Licensed Educator in the region and will cover all the four modules of the IRB Level 1 course.

The course is an attendance certified one and participants who attended and completed all the topics will be awarded an attendance certificate at the end of the training.

The course is also the prerequisite to the Level 2 accreditation course therefore, those who are interested to take up refereeing as a career and who will need to move on and do the accreditation level in rugby refereeing which starts at Level 2 must first do the discussed Level 1 course.

Submission of names to participate at the training is still open to those interested, advisably individuals from both genders and those who have some background knowledge or experience as rugby players or officials.

Contact can be made by phone to Nick on mobile number 7488930, or you can call in at the SIRUF office at Town Ground to register your name. It is free and there are limited spaces available now, so try and register your name quickly before Friday 3:00pm.
