The youngest Solomon Islands athletes to the 8th Pacific Mini Games in Cook Islands, Betty Babalu is hopeful to perform to her best.

The young 12 year old Miss Babalu from the Kwara'ae region in Malaita Province will compete in the 5,000-metre track and field event.

Miss Babalu said although this will be the first time for her to compete internationally, she is looking forward to do her best.

Solomon Star's Charles Kadamana reports from the Cook Islands that the grade 4 student at Auki Primary School was selected into the Team Solomon based on her participation and performance in this year's Easter Road Race and the Athletic National Championship hosted in Honiara on June.

She helped the Malaita Athletic team to win the second place in the Easter Road race and the Athletic National Championship in 5,000-metre event.

Miss Babalu carried the Solomon Islands national flag along with veteran long distance runner Chris Votu at the opening Tuesday afternoon.
