A two-day workshop on decentralizing government powers to provincial governments has opened this morning in Honiara.

Baddley Nukumuna of the Provincial Government says the workshop gathers provincial government secretaries and key government ministries to find out how provincial governments can work with the national government to provide services to people in rural areas.

Mr. Nukumuna says the overall aim of the workshop is decentralization and devolving government functions to provincial governments.

He says the workshop is part of the Ministry's provincial government strengthening program.

The workshop is called 'Functional Assignment' and brings together over 60 stakeholders from both the provincial and national government.

Key government ministries involved in the workshop include Agriculture, infrastructure and Development, Education, Women and Youth.
