New Zealand’s Deputy High Commissioner, Kate Bradlow, has highlighted an important milestone for the Solomon Islands while speaking to a cohort of women leaders at the launch of the Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative’s (PSDI) ‘Leadership Matters’ report.

The report assesses women in business leadership in Solomon Islands and across the Pacific.

She says while the report found that Solomon Islands currently has one of lowest proportions of women represented on Boards of Directors, the proportion of women Chief Executives surpasses the global average and this is something Solomon Island women should be proud of.

The presentations and discussions showed that women reach the top not because of their gender but because they are capable, and that women can be leaders in both the private and public sector.

“Aotearoa New Zealand is pleased to support this iniative and learn of the wonderful wealth of exprience and insights from this group of innovators and glass ceiling breakers, who have created fantastic business opportunities while forging a pathway for Solomon Island women in the future,” said Kate Bradlow.

PSDI is an ADB technical assistance program in partnership with the governments of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. It supports ADB’s 14 Pacific Development Member Countries to improve the enabling environment for business and to achieve inclusive, private sector-led economic growth, including through reforms designed to enhance the economic empowerment of women.
