The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon William Haomae, on Friday accepted the credentials of Mr Yoshiuki Sato, Turkey's new Honorary Consular to the Solomon Islands.

Mr Yoshiuki Sato was appointed last year during a visit by the Ambassador of Turkey based in Australia and it was only made official on Friday.

Mr Yoshiuki Sato stated that being a citizen of the Solomon Islands and also the Honorary Consular for the Turkish government he would do all he can to ensure that diplomatic relations are harnessed and strengthened.

"It is an advantage to have such strategic relations, we could learn from their experience and apply some of them in our country to...we should go beyond the "we can do it talk"...," said Mr Sato.

Speaking during the occasion Hon. William Haomae stated that such relations presents an opportunity for the Solomon Islands government. "We will look forward in keeping in touch with this unique window of opportunity," said Mr. Haomae.
