Solomon Islands enjoys hot weather and, unfortunately, fake messages are being spread right now that COVID 19 doe not like hot temperatures.

The theory goes that the COVID 19 spread will slow down in areas where the temperature is above 27 degrees.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has clarified that COVID 19 is actively transmitting in areas with hot and humid climates.

The WHO says that from the evidence so far, the COVID 19 virus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather.

“There is no reason to believe that weather can kill the new coronavirus or other diseases. The normal human body temperature remains around 36.5°C to 37°C, regardless of the external temperature or weather,” the WHO said.

Maria van Kerkhove, an infectious-disease expert with the WHO, said at a press conference on March 5 that "we have no reason to believe that this virus would behave differently in different temperatures."

Experts are pointing to COVID 19 cases in the Pacific Islands, which shows that the virus can spread in hot weather. There are now 28 confirmed cases of COVID 19 in Pacific countries and territories.

Countries affected include Tahiti, Guam, Fiji, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea – all share similar weather patterns with the Solomon Islands.
