Despite the withdrawal of diplomatic recognition by the Sogavare led government the Taiwanese government has assured Solomon Islands' students studying in Taiwan that that they will be able to continue with their studies under full scholarship until January 2020.

SBM Online reports that the Taiwanese government is also open to the idea for students to remain beyond January 2020 if other arrangements are made to cover tuition costs.

The news comes as a major relief to parents who worried for their students' education following Solomon Islands' decision on Monday to end 36 years of diplomatic relationship with Taiwan in favour of China.

A total of 125 Solomon Islands students are currently studying across Taiwanese universities.
