The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a strong wind warning for southern waters of Western, Russel, Guadalcanal and Rennell Bellona.
The strong wind warning is valid for the next 24 to 48 hours. The MET service says to expect northwest to northeast winds of up to 20 to 30 knots, around 30 to 50 km/hr.
MET service says the strong wind is from an active trough that lies over the Solomon Islands and is linked to a tropical low located in the coral sea.
A low-pressure system can lead to a tropical cyclone, and it can also generate strong winds as the system develops.
The MET service also advises that there will be heavy rain and thunderstorm and people should take precautionary measures.
Sea travelers are advised that seas will be moderate to rough with southeast swells, and could be hazardous for small boats.
