The South Pacific Oil (SPOL) Avaiki 7s is set to kick off today.

The four-day event will take place at the Town Ground stadium, with some of the main rugby clubs in Honiara set to participate. The event is open to both the men and women teams.

President of the SPOL Avaiki rugby club, Mr. Barry Pugeva, says the 7s tournament is about strengthening the bond, partnership, and friendship in the sport of Rugby.

“It’s for talents to be recognised, and for such sporting gifts to be appreciated, together we can all share such great sporting moments in the game we all admire.”

Mr. Pugeva also thanked all their major sponsors and supporters for making this event happen.

“It would definitely be impossible without their generous support and sponsorship. We would also like to thank the Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) for their technical support and assistance in organizing this event.”

Prizes for the SPOL Avaiki Rugby 7s tournament are as follows:

Men:
1st Price - $15,000.00 + Trophy
2nd Price - $10,000.00
3rd Price - $5,000.00
4th Price - $2,000.00

Women:
1st Price - $5,000.00 + Trophy
2nd Price - $3,000.00
3rd Price - $2,000.00
4th Price - $1,000.00

Avaiki Rugby Club is one of Solomon Islands oldest rugby club, established in 1975, the club has produced many rugby players who have made it to the national team both in the 7’s and 15’s code at Oceania level.
