Residents in Honiara are advised not to drink water straight from the tap.
“We would like to inform our customers that due to the heavy rainfall experienced inland at our sources, it is necessary to take precaution and boil all water for food preparation and consumption,” Solomon Water said in a prepared statement.
Solomon water says that it important to boil tap water as a precaution, particularly with the elevated levels of turbidity, which carries the risk of contamination.
Boiling water can kill off bacteria and other organisms, and still is the most efficient method of purification during periods of contamination.
Solomon Water says that the precautionary boil water notice is effective until further notice.
