Solomon Water is improving its water catchment and distribution infrastructure through AUD$ 4 million in funding from Australia.
The assistance from Australia is part of their overall COVID-19 economic recovery package. The funding will help deliver water to people in Honiara, Auki, Tulagi, Noro, and Gizo, which will significantly improve water security, sanitation, and hygiene in these areas. This includes installing new household water connections across 12 communities in Honiara.
Solomon Water also received an additional AUD$ 2 million from Australia in 2022 to construct fencing around three water sources in Honiara (Lengakiki tank, Panatina bore field, and White River tank) and construct a new ocean outfall for the Rove sewer system.
Recently, Acting Deputy High Commissioner Kevin Playford and Counsellor Economic Cooperation Alison Purnell visited two Solomon Water project sites in Honiara, the newly upgraded Rove water source, and Kombito to see firsthand the progress that’s been made.
Solomon Water’s NRW Coordinator Benjamin Billy and Communications and Awareness Officer Sophia Tango accompanied them to the sites.
