Boiling water is an age-old secret to ensure that water is safe to drink. Drinking contaminated water can make you seriously sick with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration.
Bacteria and parasites are all eliminated at boiling temperatures – which are the contaminants found in water that can impose the greatest threat to human health in a short amount of time.
Based on data from the World Health Organization, "water temperatures of at least 158°F (70°C) will reduce (kill) 99.999% of bacteria, protozoa, and viruses in less than one minute.”
