A Solomon Islands student studying at the Law faculty of the University of the South Pacific in Vila, has died following a brawl with security guards at a Vanuatu nightclub over the weekend.

Reports state that the first year student, Paul Sokoiasi, had went into a coma since early Saturday morning after suffering beatings by security officers of Club Vanuatu in Port Vila. The student was pronounced dead late yesterday afternoon.

Reports say that the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Ham Lini, had visited the student's body in hospital after he was pronounced dead. SIBC News reports that Solomon Islands government authorities are making arrangements to bring the student's body home tomorrow.

The late Paul Sokoiasi was a government sponsored student studying at the Law School of USP's Emalus Campus in Vanuatu and had only arrived in Port Vila just two weeks ago.

Reports from Vanuatu have stated that at least four men have been arrested in relation to the incident.
