Solomon Airlines has abolished its non-core activities departments and outsourced work previously done by those departments to local enterprises.

The Airlines says the recovery and restructure plans and the new Business Plan 2010-2012 of Solomon Airlines has abolished the Property and Maintenance Department and the Mechanical Workshop Section.

It says as a State Owned Enterprise operating as a commercial entity, one of the major challenges of its new Business Plan is to review its core business.

The airline Board has vetted and approved the restructure. The airline says workers in those departments are being paid out as part of a redundancy package.

It says increased competition and pressures for improvements to services, infrastructure and equipment and other reasons have made it necessary for the restructuring.
