Police have maintained order in Honiara after the election of Gizo/Kolombangara MP Gordon Darcy Lilo as Prime Minister.

Acting Police Commissioner Walter Kola told SIBC News this morning that police have arrested up to 22 people in relation to the incident.

"There were three additional last night from the first 19, and they are in police custody," said Mr Kola.

"Last night, there were only small issues, but from last night until this morning, situation now is well under control."

The Acting Commissioner said police will continue to monitor the situation and is confident it has the resources to handle it.

The streets of Honiara were very quiet this morning, with people going back to normal daily work.

Mr. Kola called on residents of the city to respect the law and stay away from trouble.
