The Western Provincial Government will benefit from a SBD$4.8 Million dollar project to build a new water supply system for the Gizo Township and to tar seal the Gizo roads.

Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, signed the agency agreement on behalf of the National Government while the Premier of the Western Province, Alex Lokopio, signed on behalf of the Western Province.

Speaking to the National Express Newspaper, Premier Lokopio stated that the agency agreement is the result of negotiations between his Government and the National Government.

"During negotiations with the Prime Minister I made it clear to them that Gizo's problems with its water supply has been a problem which we have raised with successive National Governments during the past 29 years since independence, but nothing has been done about it so far," said the Western Province Premier.

The Western Province Premier has also revealed that he is continuing discussions with the National Government on other immediate issues affecting Gizo Township following the damage caused by the April earthquake and tsunami disaster.
