Another milestone has been achieved for SAFENET, the Solomon Island’s national multisector gender-based violence service delivery system led by the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Solomon Islands. with key multisectoral partners.

This week the Regional Director's Learning Exchange witnessed the Solomon Islands SAFENET welcome onboard its new partners.

Referred to as the Hope Trust, the new partners to the SAFENET network are the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP); the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration; and the Honiara City Council Women’s Development Division, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SAFENET.

Hope Trust’s role includes trauma informed care, counselling, case management, and investigation of causes related to survivors of gender-based violence with a key focus on children impacted by human trafficking, sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.

The Ministry of Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration’s role is coordination and collaboration with other agencies involved in managing human trafficking cases; while ODPP provides survivors representation in court, the Honiara City Council Women’s Development Division provides psychological first aid and short-term accommodation.

SAFENET members and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Dr Cedric Alependava at the Regional Director’s of Women Learning Exchange, welcomed and congratulated the new members at the Learning Exchange.

The Regional Directors Learning Exchange is led by the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, Solomon Islands in partnership with UN Women, and is supported by the Pacific Partnership to End Violence against Women and Girls (Pacific Partnership) funded primarily by the European Union, Governments of Australia and New Zealand and UN Women.
