The Australian Prime Minister on Saturday met with our Prime Minister Derrick Sikua to discuss how our governments can work together to address the significant development challenges facing Solomon Islands.

Rudd told the media in a press conference that they have confirmed their shared commitment to work together.

"We confirmed our shared commitment to work in partnership, both bilaterally and through the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), to deliver better outcomes for the people of Solomon Islands."

Rudd also said that Australia and Solomon Islands will work together to establish a Pacific partnership for Development: a bilateral agreement emphasizing mutual commitments to improve long-term development outcomes.

"This Pacific Partnership for Development will link improvements in a number of high priority areas to additional Australian assistance, including for public works to improve infrastructure and create local employment" said Mr. Rudd.
