The body of the deceased male found near Varamata SDA Church at Vara Creek area in the afternoon of 15th December 2008 has been identified.

The body was identified on the weekend at the National Referral Hospital by a brother and uncle of the deceased.

Police Media says the body of the deceased male was then released for burial at Kola Ridge on the same day.

Acting Director of National Crime Investigation Department, Inspector Silas Karani, said that with the body now identified, police can continue with their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Inspector Karani thanked the media and members of the public for their assistance in the investigation.

"I would like to thank the media agencies and the public for their assistance. The body was identified by a relative after sketches of tattoos specific to the deceased were published in the media.

"Without the support of the media and the public, the investigation would have been more difficult," he said.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad are now treating the death as suspicious and urge anyone with information to contact police.
