The Government has beefed up measures in the fight against COVID-19.

Following the latest Travel Advisory issued last night, the Government has issued a stern warning that anyone who breaches the advice or escapes quarantine will face consequences, which could lead to imprisonment.

The Government will continue to monitor the situation as a ban is now enforced for all non-citizens, reports a government statement.

“Incoming Solomon Islands Citizens and residents who travelled through any country reporting cases of COVID-19(Coronavirus) will be permitted to enter however, will undergo mandatory strict quarantine for 14 days,” it said.

The statement adds, all travellers (returning citizens and residents) arriving in Solomon Islands will be quarantined for 14 days and are mandated to report presence or development of any symptoms within 14 days of arrival in Solomon Islands.

The statement further highlighted, persons suspected of or displaying symptoms of the COVID-19, will be isolated and subjected to further diagnosis or tests by Health Authorities.

“Any person found to be providing false information to the Solomon Islands Government will be prosecuted under the relevant laws of Solomon Islands and this may include imprisonment or deportation,” it said.

The statement said the quarantine process is an important measure seriously undertaken by the Government.

Meanwhile, following the Travel Advisory issued last night, all in-bound passengers today have undergone strict quarantine procedures.

The statement also adds, in the event of a state of emergency, the Government will provide further advice and ensure limited interaction.
