Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP has led a delegation of government ministers to visit the Pacific Games facilities yesterday.

Also in the delegation was the President of Pacific Games Council (PGC) Vidhya Lakhan and PGC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andrew Minogue.

Peoples’ Republic of China’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands His Excellency Li Ming would later joined the party at the running track opposite the newly established Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Academy.

The visit started at the newly constructed SIFF Academy in East of King George School and proceeded to the running tracks opposite the SIFF academy.

The visiting party then proceeded to the national stadium and concluded the site- seeing at the newly constructed boys and girls dormitories at Solomon Islands National University, Kukum Campus.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare was overwhelmed with gratitude to see firsthand the progress so far in the construction of the facilities for the much anticipated 2023 Pacific Games.

During a lunch recess at the national stadium, PM Sogavare conveyed to the Chinese Ambassador Li Ming the profound appreciation by the government and people of Solomon Islands for Peoples’ Republic of China’s (PRC) assistance in funding the national stadium, the running track and the SINU dormitories.

The Prime Minister further conveyed sincere gratitude to the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation for building an international standard stadium and also playing an important role in constructing other important infrastructures for the benefit of the country and its people.

President of Pacific Games Council Vidhya Lakhan also expressed profound satisfaction in seeing the Pacific Games facilities preparatory work on track and ahead of schedule.

Lakhan said it was only in November last year he visited the sites, and he was struck with awe now to see the progress on track and clearly going ahead of schedule.

Lakhan’s genuine feedback made the Prime Minister to react saying “yes we can do it”.
