The Royal Solomon Islands Police are mounting up search operations for two children who went missing around the upper Betikama area since yesterday.

Acting Police Commissioner, Edmund Sikua said the two, a one year old and a two year old, were reported missing since yesterday.

He said a team comprising members of the participating police and their local colleagues is searching for the children.

Meanwhile an evacuation process is currently underway with many visibly shocked and confused as to what to do next.

Nelly Pei, one of the first evacuees from Alligator creek area, says her family's house has been washed away and nothing could be done to even save some of their clothing.

Mrs Pei says they were awaken to see the flood right at their doorsteps and had only little time to swim across to the main road with two of her little children before the flooding gets worse.

She is with her two children and her husband at the Police Club at Rove.
