The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Solomons International Assistance Force (SIAF) are gearing up for parliament sitting next week.

Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau appeals to all citizens and the public of Solomon Islands to observe the upcoming parliament sitting with respect.

He says the RSIPF and SIAF aim to provide a safe and secure sitting of parliament, but calls for the cooperation of the public especially those residing in Honiara.

Operation Parliament will have specialist teams from SIAF and RSIPF deployed for the duration of parliament. RSIPF and SIAF officers will conduct proactive patrols and mount road blocks to deal with any public disorder issues swiftly and to support a peaceful sitting period.

The operation will provide security, protection and a response capability to any unrest during the parliamentary sitting period. SIAF officers will join forces with RSIPF Public Order Management officers from Central Response Unit (CRU), Provincial Response Unit (PRU) and Police Response Team (PRT), supported by the RSIPF frontline members.

Commissioner Mangau and Deputy Commissioner SIAF Davies, reinforced the message that the team is prepared for the operation, and reiterated that areas to the east and west of Honiara will have high visibility patrols by RSIPF and SIAF.

Criminal activity and instigators of violence or unrest will be arrested; patrols will include roadblocks that will be supported by aerial surveillance. SIAF is here to assist RSIPF in maintaining peace and security for the people of Solomon Islands.

Mr. Mangau echoed this message and thanked the community and church leaders for their support to the previous operations and appealed for this to continue for the upcoming operation.
