About 40 plus Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have completed a three days training on command awareness at Rove police headquarters.

Over 40 officers from the Honiara-based Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), representing various departments and units, participated in a training session in preparation for the NGE24.

The training was conducted by two facilitators from the National Police College in the United Kingdom (UK), who arrived in the country on February 26, 2024.

The command awareness training program, based on the National Decision Model (NDM) adopted by UK police, aims to enhance decision-making skills during operations and ensure the continued protection and service to the public in dynamic situations.

In her closing statements, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Operations and the overall commander for the NGE24, Juanita Matanga, expressed gratitude to the facilitators for sharing their expertise with RSIPF officers on command awareness. DC Matanga urged the officers to apply the knowledge gained during the three-day training as they prepare for the NGE24.

During the official opening program, British High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Tom Coward, emphasized the crucial role of police officers in maintaining law and order, preventing violence, and enabling citizens to vote freely without fear, essential elements of a functioning democracy.

Commissioner Coward stressed that police support is vital for a credible election process, including the investigation of any potential breaches.

He further highlighted the importance of building positive community relations before, during, and after the election to instill confidence as the NGE24 approaches. On behalf of RSIPF officers, Director of the National Department (NTD) Superintendent William Foufaka expressed gratitude to the facilitators, presenting a small token of appreciation.

Additionally, the RSIPF Executive participated in a similar one-day training on March 1, 2024, held at the Rove police headquarters.
