Henderson Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 10 year old boy from Kaimomosa village in the Tenaru area, Malango District, Central Guadalcanal.

The deceased and four other boys were out bush walking during which the deceased climbed a palm tree to get coconuts for them.

Police were told that the others allegedly lit the dead leaves near the palm tree which consequently set the palm tree on fire. The deceased was caught in the fire but managed climb down from the tree.

It was reported that the deceased was taken to a nearby river where he was washed and was later taken to the National Referral Hospital.

He was pronounced dead by a Doctor in the early hours of Saturday 22 September 2007.

Medical authorities confirmed that the deceased died from severe burns to nearly 95% of his body.

Enquiries are continuing.
