Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare today has launched the official logo and website for the 45th Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance Conference (PMTA).
The conference will be hosted here in Honiara from the 8th to 10th July this year.
Speaking during the occasion at the Mendana Hotel today, the Prime Minister congratulated the Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) for bringing the 45th Chapter of the PMTA Conference to our shores.
“I understand this will be the very first time that Solomon Islands will host this key regional event in our country,” he said.
The Prime Minister said as a first-time host, there are a lot of expectations on us as the host country to not only host, but to ensure the conference is successful as well as memorable.
He said this require us to be well advanced in our preparation to host the meeting. The Prime Minister said among the important early preparatory milestones, is to have a conference logo as well as a conference website.
“These two items provide the public icons for the meeting. The website will be the home for all relevant technical papers and information about the conference as well as information that will be deliberated on at the conference,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare adds the logo will signal the unity among the Maritime Transport Associations as they serve individually and collectively to build and further unify our diverse region.
He acknowledged that the theme for the Conference is ‘Climate Change – Sustainability and Resilience of Pacific Ports’.
“The theme conveys a timely reminder to our small pacific countries that we depend on each other for our long-term survival. The impacts of climate change on our ports and in all our countries is of great concern to us all,” he said.
The Prime Minister said our ports infrastructures and management regimes need to be resilient as all Pacific countries depend on their ports for their economic survival and wellbeing.
The Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance is a regional group comprising the various Ports from Pacific Islands countries and territories.
PMTA promotes measures that increase efficiency and safety of port operations and provide a platform for facilitating harmonious development of ports in the region.
