National Referral Hospital (NRH) remains grateful to the continuous support of the World Health Organization (WHO) in enhancing the capability of the hospital to provide essential health services to the people.

This week NRH Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department received three new examination headlights from WHO.

ENT nurse, Mr. Selwyn Fakewai explained the importance of the examination headlights. “This equipment is critical to our department as it enables us to visually observe and assess for any infection, inflammation or other health issues and conditions in patients, ear, nose and throat to provide appropriate treatment”.

He further explained, “The examination head lights are frequently used thus are very easy to wear out as we have experienced in our department and at times we had to resort to other means which are less effective. Therefore, these new head lights provided is greatly appreciated and will be used immediately”.

Recently, WHO also handed over an X-ray machine to NRH which has further added to the capability of the hospital to conduct examination of the inside of the body mainly bones and joints including detection of other problems affecting internal organs.”

NRH Medical Superintendent Dr John Hue expressed sincere gratitude towards WHO for the items provided stating that this is part of the broader support of WHO towards building capacity and enhancing capability of the hospital to effectively and efficiently deliver much needed services to the people across the country referred to the hospital.

“Thank you so much WHO”, stated Dr John Hue.

Officer in Charge of WHO Solomon Islands Office, Dr Sonja Tanevska in handing over the items highlighted that WHO is pleased to be supporting the ENT department with the examination headlights. “We are aware of the importance of this equipment towards the ENT and following discussions with the team, the lights were noted as urgent need for the department thus our pleasure to be providing the support”.

Dr Tanesvska assured of WHO’s commitment to continuously support the hospital and the overall health sector of the country to ensure relevant capacity and capabilities are in place to serve the people.
