Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga has applauded the Solomon Islands National Body Building Federation (SINBBF) for hosting a successful National Body Building Championship over the weekend.
Hosted on the Theme “Promoting Health and Fitness in Solomon Islands, the Championship drew competitors from Honiara and Malaita Province with the aim to identify potential athletes for the national body building squad for the 2023 Pacific Games.
Maelanga said he was excited with the pathway the Federation is taking in promoting and strengthening body building in the country.
The Federation has club membership in Honiara as well as in some Provinces, notably, Malaita and Western Province.
“This is very encouraging given that Body Building is one of the new sporting federations in the country and the spread of affiliated membership to our Provinces is very encouraging. As a new and growing sport, I am confident that Body Building has the potential to groom better sportsmen and women for our country,” Maelanga said.
“Moreover, I believe body building is a prospective medal contender in the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games here in Honiara,” he added.
He also applauded the Body Building Federation for setting a target of winning 10 gold medals for Solomon Islands in the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games.
“I would like to encourage all Body Building athletes to train harder, discipline more and set your eyes on more Gold medals for our country in the 2023 Pacific Games and beyond,” Maelanga said.
The Deputy Prime Minister assured the audience on Saturday that the National Government, regardless of the challenges of covid-19 in the past 30 months remains committed and determined to prepare our athletes for the upcoming games and in any other future sporting events in world.
He conveyed his utmost appreciation to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Sol Rice company for sponsoring the championship while at the same time thanked the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS) management and others for providing technical support and the venue to host the event.
