National Athletics Championship to be Held

A Primary School Carnival and a National Athletics Championship Competition will be held in Honiara from the 30th to the 31st of October.

This was revealed by the Development Officer of Athletics, Mr. Martin Rara.

Funded by 'Our Telecom' the National Athletics Championships will consist of athletes nationwide. The primary school carnival will only be for schools within Honiara and the Guadalcanal Province.

Adding on he said that the Athletics Solomon Technical Committee had conducted a coaching workshop recently at the Tanagai School, West of Honiara. This is to build up towards the School Carnival and the National Athletics Championship. The coaching workshop was funded by the Oceania Athletics Association.

Solomon Times was also informed that a National Half Marathon will be organized for the 29th of November. Mr. Rara stated that all athletes throughout the country are encouraged to participate. The total distance of the marathon is 21km.
