Solomon Islands Tertiary Association of Sports (SITAS) ‘Cluster Day’ was recently held at the High Performance Centre to identify athletes.

Three tertiary schools that participated in the ‘Cluster Day’ were Don Bosco Technical Institute, Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and GS Faisi Rural Training Centre.

The activities held during the ‘Cluster Day’ were 3x3 Basketball and Seven-aside soccer, on which a few potential athletes have been identified to undergo SINIS 10 week trial scholarship.

The SINIS 10 week trial scholarship will give the potential athletes the opportunity to undergo ‘Conditioning and Gym’ sessions at the High Performance Centre, which includes having access to the services provided at SINIS such as through wellbeing, nutrition and mental skills.

“Other than that we also have a male and female athlete of the day and they are Roger Elisa and Catherine Mateka. The male athlete of the day is from SINU while the female athlete of the day is from GS Faisi Rural Training Centre," says the Talent Identification and Development Coordinator Graham Mani Junior.

The athletes’ prizes were sling bags, water bottles, SINIS hats, Bulk Shop voucher cards and certificates.

The atheletes participating from the three schools also received participation certificates as a token of appreciation and thank you from SINIS.

“Thank you for your time, thank you to the Sport Masters of these schools for organising their schools to come and participate in the program. They are Mr Abraham Faisi Leslie from GS Faisi Rural Training Centre, Thomas Makaa and Peter Ramoga from Don Bosco Technical Institute and Patrick Miniti from SINU. Thank you very much,” said Junior.

One of the Don Bosco Technical Institute student’s speaking to SINIS MEDIA, Junior Robert expressed appreciation to SINIS for the ‘Cluster Day’ being organised, as he said such program helps them students and youths to positively expose their talent and skills in sportsmanship.

The next similar SITAS program for this year will be held on September 28.
