The Hon. John Tuhaika Jr, Minister for Public Service of the Solomon Islands, participated in high-level bilateral meetings with key international figures in Incheon, Republic of Korea, focusing on fostering innovation and strengthening public service amid global challenges.
These meetings underscored the commitment of the GNUT to modernize its public service and strengthen international partnerships
The Solomon Islands held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination, Mr. Jung, Young Jun. During the meeting, Minister John Tuhaika Junior acknowledged the Republic of Korea for hosting the High-Level Forum and commended Korea for its leadership in innovation and global e-governance.
He stated that the Solomon Islands will always look to Korea for assistance in enhancing its e-governance capabilities. The current GNUT government is keen to modernize the Public Service and views South Korea as a role model. In response, Deputy Minister Jung affirmed the Korean government’s willingness to assist the Solomon Islands in the areas of innovation and e-governance.
Minister Tuhaika Junior also held a bilateral meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Li Junhua. He expressed his gratitude for the invitation to attend the High-Level Forum and reiterated the GNUT government’s commitment to ensuring effective governance in the public sector.
In response, Mr. Li Junhua confirmed that the UN DESA is ready to provide support to the Solomon Islands in digital government and capacity building. Mr. Li Junhua reaffirmed UN DESA’s readiness to provide comprehensive support to the Solomon Islands. He stated, “UN DESA is committed to assisting the Solomon Islands in advancing digital government and enhancing public sector capacities through tailored programs and initiatives.”
Minister Tuhaika expressed his appreciation for the strong international support from both the Republic of Korea and UN DESA, underscoring the importance of these partnerships in driving the GNUT development agenda through effective governance.
