The police are currently investigation circumstances surrounding the death of a 47 year old chainsaw operator at a logging camp in South Malaita.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Mr Leonard Tahnimana said police in Auki have been dispatched to the logging camp owned by Jubilant Company in South Malaita.

It is understood the 47-year-old died from wounds sustained from a fallen branch that struck him in the head.

Tahnimana said preliminary reports say that the deceased was felling a massive tree at the time when a branch from another tree nearby got caught, snapped and hit the deceased’s head who died instantly.

The deceased was taken by Police to Rohinari clinic for medical examination and thereafter repatriated to his home village in West Kwaio.

Tahnimana shared his condolence to the immediate family members for the loss of their loved one during this dark moment.
