A signing of the Exchange of Notes between the Government of Japan and the Solomon Islands Government was held recently at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
The signing will see a new Market and Jetty being built in Auki, Malaita Province.The project for the Malaita jetty and market was funded with an amount of $811 million yen by the Japanese Government.Speaking during the signing ceremony, Japanese Charge' de' Affairs, Mr. Akira Iwanade, said that he is pleased with the signing as it will pave the way forward for actual construction. Mr. Iwanade said that by doing so there will be a huge improvement in the flow and exchange of goods from Auki to Honiara.
"The signing of the governments of Japan and Solomon Islands marks the continued good relations the two countries maintain since the establishment of our diplomatic and bilateral relations decades ago," said Mr. Iwanade.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Mr. William Haomae, said that the assistance rendered by the Japanese government is timely, given the huge emphasis placed on the rural sector by the current government.
Mr. Haomae then thanked the Japanese government on behalf of the people of Solomon Islands.
