Afu Billy, the regional director of the commonwealth youth Programme (CYP), made the statement today at a public forum organized by the Office of the High commissioner for human rights.
"It is indeed unfortunate that some of our politicians and senior bureaucrats do not see the importance of treaty reporting" Afu Billy stated. "The government has the first responsibility when it comes to reporting"Afu Billy said that more needs to be done to ensure that the Solomon Islands fully comply with its obligations as a signatory to important declaration such the convention covering the rights of women.
"I am most concerned that such treaties may clash with our cultural values" a participant stated. "I just wonder whether the government thought of that when signing up to it"
