Incoming nationals who have undergone the compulsory 14 days quarantine at Institutional Quarantine Centers East of Honiara City have been praised for cooperating with Government authorities in efforts to prevent Covid-19 from our country.

Currently a total of 65 healthy incoming passengers have been quarantined in four quarantine centers.

A statement from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) last night said Health and National Emergency Response Team (NERT) Officials have confirmed that response from incoming passengers have been excellent as they adhere to the strict standard procedures enforced by authorities.

“No resistance has been recorded as they follow the response team advices’ and stay isolated in their rooms,” the statement said.

They have also been advised to respect the current State of Emergency situation and most of all to think of the health and safety of the wider community, including their family and relatives in Honiara.

Four quarantine centers have been setup by the Government last week at the Guadalcanal Beach Resort, Vimo Apartments, Pacific Casino Hotel and the Solomon Islands Sports Leadership Institute Center at Panatina.

Persons that are currently quarantined are not sick or infected with the virus but because they have transited or disembarked from countries that have recorded positive cases of covid-19.

Families, relatives and friends are asked to comply and respect quarantine rules at the sites and should expect no pick up of relative or friends from the arrival at Honiara International Airport.

Meanwhile, Health authorities continue to remind the general public to practice social distancing (2 meters apart) and good hygiene behaviors such as hand washing and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing.

A ban on all international flights have been imposed by the Government Friday last week and only emergency flights will be allowed entry under strict procedures.
