A report from the Office of the Provincial Police Commander in KiraKira, Makira-Ulawa Province, today says unconfirmed reports claim that high swells have destroyed four houses on Ulawa Island.

"However we have not been able to confirm the report because of poor communications," it says.

It also said floods have washed away food gardens belonging to 42 families with 264 members on the 3rd of February but didn't indicate where these families were in the Province.

"Although the Provincial Disaster Committee held a multi-sectoral meeting yesterday and agreed to send four assessment teams bad weather and limited funds are delaying three teams - only one has been deployed to Maepua, Parana and Riri in Central west Makira," says the report.

Other big rivers in Central Makira are still flooding, it adds.
