Honiara City Council (HCC) is the first of government's machinery to implement a pay cut in light of the effects of COVID-19.
The Honiara City Council Executive Committee met today, 20 April 2020 and approved resolutions to implement the pay cuts.
City Clerk Rence Sore revealed that the City Mayor and himself, City Clerk will receive a pay cut of 25 percent commencing on their next fortnightly pay. This will be for six months.
All non-essential services of HCC will also receive a pay cut of 25 percent commencing on the next fortnight, and for 6-months.
"These resolutions were made of the mitigation measures that the Council is doing in light of the Councils response to the coronavirus pandemic", Sore said.
He said the City Council will take additional measures in the near future, depending on the severity and duration of the pandemic.
For the national government, currently all workers except essential workers are on full pay leave until the end of the month.
