The Honiara City Council (HCC) health promotion team is currently conducting street awareness programs on COVID 19 for the public.

The HCC health division says that it is important to conduct such awareness to ensure that people in the city understand and better prepare for the global pandemic virus.

Oliver Oli, an officer within the division, says that it is important that the general public are guided with the right information, and are not misled with misinformation which can result in unnecessary panic.

“This awareness program is an information session, making people aware of the COVID 19 and necessary measures that can be taken if the virus enters the country.

“Such measures are important, if everyone can act appropriately, we can prevent the COVID 19 from entering Solomon Islands or even if it does, we are ready,” Officer Oli explained.

George Lui, one the participants spoken to, says that this is the right approach, one that can help prevent the COVID 19 from reaching our shores.

“HCC Health Team has done a great job and they should keep this going so that people can take measure and be prepared for the Corona Virus,” Mr. Lui said.

The Honiara City Council health promotion team says that they will conduct several COVID 19 street awareness programs in the coming months.
