A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in Munda, Western Province to signal the beginning of construction work for the country's second international airport.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation, Jeffery Wickham, told SIBC News from Munda that the Australian and New Zealand governments will fund the construction of the Munda International Airport.Mr Wickham says although they are behind schedule, the tender process is already in place and will be closing on the 12 of this month, with the actual construction of the airport expected to be carried out over 6 months.
Mr Wickham says it might take another 3 to 4 years to have a fully developed international airport.
Meanwhile, he says as contribution to the project the government will pay for the fencing of the area and also funding the airport itself.
SIBC News reports that tomorrow's ground breaking ceremony coincides with the Lagoon Festival and Second Appointed day Celebrations in Munda this week.
