Within the context of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework for the Pacific, the Solomon Islands Action Plan for 2008-2012 will be reviewed.

The review will be conducted by the Government and the United Nations in a joint two-day meeting this week.

Participating United Nations organizations- notably the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF); and the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA) - see this event as a major opportunity to expand the strong partnership with the Solomon Islands.

The Action Plan is a result of a one-year consultative process that included civil society, national and provincial authorities and development partners.

The agreed programme areas for the United Nations agencies for 2008-2012 are:

* Equitable economic growth;
* Democratic governance and human rights;
* Equitable social and protection services; and
* Sustainable environmental and natural resources management.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Development Planning and Aid Coordination, will review the proposed activities of three UN agencies. Permanent Secretaries from several ministries and offices are expected to participate in the review.

The outcome of the meeting will be agreed on the Action Plan.
