The establishment of a new Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister has been approved.

The new Policy Planning Unit, approved by Cabinet, will process and monitor the implementation of the government's National Integrated Development Plan.

Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, described the creation of the new unit as a sign of government's commitment to achieve its development objectives through the "Bottom-Up Approach" policy.

Mr. Sogavare said the National Integrated Development Plan would be supported by the work of the Constituency Development Offices.

Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. John Roughan, has been appointed to take up a new position as Rural Development Advisor in the new Unit.

Mr. Sogavare said Dr Roughan stood out as having the required level of knowledge, skills and experiences to make a difference with the implementation of the government's rural development policies.
