Solomon Islands Golf athletes, George Rukabo and Tony Ramo have travelled to Melbourne, Australia, to for this year's Asia Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC).

Asia Pacific Amateur Championship is an annual event which invites golf players from the Asia Pacific to participate.

According to Solomon Islands Golf Federation Team Manager, Arvindra Rishi Prasad, every year the nation has players who represent Solomon Islands Golf Federation. And for this year, the two most outstanding players selected by the federation to attend the competition are George Rukabo and Tony Ramo.

The Purpose of the trip is to train the two golf players with experience teams of experts in coaching, sports science and fitness. This will allow them to enhance their abilities and skills for the major competition in October and also a preparation for the upcoming XVII Pacific Games.

“The trip is only possible through the assistance from SINIS [Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport]. The federation would like to convey the sincere thanks to SINIS Staff for all the efforts put in for the processing of the VISA for two of our athletes,” said Prasad.

“We are looking forward for the continuous support from SINIS during the preparation of Pacific Games and in future.”

Golf athlete, George Rukabo speaking to SINIS MEDIA acknowledge Solomon Islands Golf National Federation President Lionel Kiara and the Vice President Lafaele Kwan Amataga in getting connected with AAC to make the trip available.

“To the Team Manager Rishi Prasad, thank you for working very hard to organize this trip as well. To our international Golf Coach Nathan Weaver, thank you for the continuous great coaching tips. To SINIS Executive Director Aaron Alsop and Staff, thank you for sorting out our Visa in just a day, and lastly to our fellow squad members, thank you for the positive support,” said Rukabo.

The goal of the Academy is to further enhance the abilities, skills and prepare the players for the AAC that will be played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club from the 26th to 29th October 2023.

The Asia Pacific Amateur Championship have assembled an experienced team of experts in coaching, sports science, fitness and other areas to deliver sessions to the players. We will also continue our player performance monitoring system for the players following the conclusion of the Academy.

The monitoring system aims to track player progress with real time information and assistance to provide on-going support.
