Gold Ridge Mining Limited has denied media reports of cyanide leakages at the gold mine site.

Acting General Manager of the company Keith Nielsen told a news conference in Honiara that the company was appalled and puzzled by recent media reports alleging cyanide leakages at the mine.

Mr Nielsen dismisses the reports as false.

He says the reports were made purely on speculations. Mr Nielsen says the company had not imported cyanide chemical for the last 10 years.

The Acting General Manager however confirmed there is a tank containing certain amount of cyanide solution left behind by the previous operation. Mr Nielsen says the tank has a hole from the period of the ethnic conflict.

However, he says no leakage has been evident. Mr Nielsen says since Gold Ridge Mining Limited took over control of the mine site in 2005, it had continuously complied with international safety standards.
