Today we awake to a new normal, while there is a sense of quite and calm, fact is we are now in the fight of our lives - our healthcare workers and frontliners are out there fighting this virus for us, for that we say thank you!

But we all have a part to play, they need our cooperation and support, especially with contact tracing – they need to be able to map out the level of infection and how far it may have spread.

For those that were on the boat MV Akwa that arrived in Honiara from Ontong Java on the 10th of January 2022 it is important that you identify yourself to health authorities and get tested. Call 155 or 25256 and identify yourself, the health team will come to you.

For those that were at the wharf when the boat berthed to welcome back families, you need to get tested. Call 155 or 25256 and identify yourself, the health team will come to you.

For those that are in the same household as any of the passengers on board MV Akwa, you need to get tested. Call 155 or 25256 and identify yourself, the health team will come to you.

For those that may have come in contact with any of the passengers, or were within the same room, especially closed area such as office or bank, and regardless of how brief, you need to get tested. Call 155 or 25256 and identify yourself, the health team will come to you.

It's been 10 days since the boat with the infected individual arrived in Honiara – chances are the virus has already spread in communities that were exposed.

Experience in other countries show that to contain the virus a lockdown is deemed important. With no movement the virus will not spread – so let us all respect the lockdown and stay at home.

We must all take this exercise seriously and cooperate with authorities, we have failed to get vaccinated – we cannot fail this time around.
