The Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia to Solomon Islands His Excellency Carson K. Sigrah has presented his letters of credence to the Governor General, His Excellency, Sir David Tiva Kapu.
In welcoming Ambassador Sigrah, Governor General Sir David Tiva Kapu expressed his confidence in the appointment of His Excellency Carson K. Sigrah as Ambassador to Solomon Islands.
“I am confident that under your leadership, our two nations will continue to strengthen our cooperation and address issues of mutual interest, contributing to the progress and prosperity of our peoples,” stated Governor General Sir David Tiva Kapu.
He emphasized the long-standing, cordial relations between Solomon Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia, both bilaterally and within regional and multilateral frameworks.
“Connected by the ocean, we share a mutual concern for a sustainable and resilient Pacific,” he added.
The Governor General also took the opportunity to thank the Federated States of Micronesia for its support during the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), which played a key role in one of the darker chapters in the nation’s history.
As Solomon Islands prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, the Governor General reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening and integrating the Pacific region.
In his remarks, Ambassador Sigrah reflected on the strong, respectful diplomatic ties that have existed between the two nations since the establishment of formal relations.
He highlighted the shared values and interests that bind the two countries, both in the Pacific and on the global stage.
Ambassador Sigrah also commended Solomon Islands for its steadfast leadership, particularly in advocating for the sustainable management of shared ocean resources, as well as addressing issues related to climate change and sea level rise in the region.
The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is located in the northern Pacific and northwest of Solomon Islands. It is a sovereign nation and consists of four states- Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap.
