Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has announced that the country’s fourth case has recovered and has tested negative.

This good news comes following the announcement by the Health Minister last week that the results of our first three cases have also returned negative.

The Prime Minister said the fourth case was earlier admitted to the Isolation unit of the National Referral Hospital with COVID-19 symptoms.

He said the student was tested again and his result has returned negative.

“Our fourth case was retested and is now negative. Therefore, all our four initial positive cases are now negative,” he said.

However, Prime Minister Sogavare said all the four cases will remain in isolation to undergo further tests.

The Prime Minister said they will be moved to another location if they satisfy further testing requirements.

“This is done to make sure they are fully safe and free from COVID-19,” he said.

The test was done using both the GeneXpert and qPCR machines. The student was a close contact of the second positive case, which has also tested negative.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sogavare has assured the nation that the situation is under control.

“We have contained the virus within the quarantine and isolation stations. We have also successfully avoided community transmission because we have continued to do the right thing by strictly adhering to our standard operating procedures and protocols,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the Government is confident that our mission to eliminate COVID-19 from our shores is attainable.

“My good people, your Government remains committed and vigilant in our fight against COVID-19. Our determination is stronger than ever. Our resolve has never wavered,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare also encouraged citizens to continue pray for those in the quarantine and isolation stations.

“Please pray for our front liners and their families as well. We are all in this fight together. We have no one else but each other. This is a battle that we can win together,” he said.
