The National Emergency Response Team (NERT) has acknowledge the continuous support which Solomon Islands Red Cross (SIRC) has rendered towards the National Disaster Operation Committee (N-DOC) and Provincial Disaster Committee (P-DOC) preparedness and response plans.

Since the activation of all N-DOC sector committees and those in the provincial level, SIRC as an auxiliary agency to the Government has been supportive by engaging in all planning setups on COVID-19 as well as liaising with other relevant stakeholders.

SIRC committed three staffs and two volunteers to support the national sector committees who are currently engaged with the Camp Management and Protection Sector Committees, as well as logistics at four Institutional Quarantine Facilities (IQF’s) within the Honiara emergency zone.

Their support towards provincial health sector has been overwhelming.

For Western Province, SIRC volunteers has already complete the awareness programs in partnership with the provincial health promotions department.

Gizo Branch Coordinator, Ogier Kiko, said they engaged in house-to-house awareness covering the dotted islands.

He highlighted that they also used other available mediums like the ‘Radio Hapi Lagoon’ to amplify the COVID-19 protection and preparedness messages in the form of radio spots.

“We remain committed to our community-based obligations in the face of this pandemic," Mr Kiko said.

“We are ready should more coordination and preparedness efforts are needed by provincial sector committees,” he added.

Save the Children has also been instrumental in their support for Western province awareness programs on COVID-19, particularly in the P-DOC Protection Sector Committee.

Similar awareness activities were also conducted in all the 9 provinces.
