Yesterday, the Honiara Police Drug Squad arrested a 49 year old man who was in possession of marijuana weighing at least 300 grams.
The offender was carrying a plastic bag containing the marijuana at the Central Market Wharf. The 49 year old man boarded MV Bikoi and tried to sell the drugs to passengers.Police were alerted by the crew of the boat and officers quickly made their way to the wharf where they arrested the man.
The 49 year old man was taken to Central Watch House. He was charged for possession of illegal drugs. He is expected to appear in court later this month.
The rise in the use of marijuana amongst youths in Honiara has prompted the police to increase its presence in many of the hot spots in Honiara. The public, fed up with the wide spread use of the drug have also been cooperating with the police.
